Make sure you bring enough toiletries and clothing to last for a two week period.

  • Shampoo
  • Soap
  • Q-tips
  • Hairbrush

Please note that you will be expected to be clean-shaven every day unless you receive a P’tor (exemption) from shaving.

Women

  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Black hair ties
  • Hair clips

If you plan to wear makeup on Fridays when leaving the base, it’s a good idea to bring a small mirror.

Women’s Appearance Guidelines

The army has strict rules regarding the following items. Failure to follow these regulations may result in disciplinary action.

Makeup

You are allowed to wear black eyeliner and black mascara with your Aleph uniform (the uniform worn when leaving the base).

Nail Polish

Clear nail polish is permitted on both fingernails and toenails. Colored nail polish is not allowed.

Jewelry

You may wear:

  • One stud earring in each earlobe (smaller than a 1-shekel coin)
  • One necklace
  • One ring per hand

No additional jewelry is permitted.

Final Thoughts

Every soldier’s experience is unique, and your packing list may change depending on your role, base, and personal preferences. Start with the essentials, pack thoughtfully, and remember that you can always add items later.

The most important thing you bring isn’t in your suitcase – it’s your willingness to adapt, learn, and embrace the journey ahead.

Good luck, and welcome to your IDF service!
