If you would like to request reassignment to a different position in the IDF, you must submit an official request through your unit.
Submitting Form 55
The first step is to complete Form 55 (טופס 55), which is the official request form for reassignment.
Submit the completed form to your unit’s Human Resources Office (משרד משא״ן).
The form must be signed by:
- Your direct commanding officer
- A senior officer in your unit (rank of Lieutenant Colonel – סגן אלוף)
Explaining Your Request
Along with Form 55 (or on the back of the form), provide a detailed explanation of why you are requesting a new position. To give your request the best chance of being considered, be as specific as possible and include all relevant details.
Requesting a Combat Position
If you are requesting reassignment to a combat role, additional documentation is required.
Male Soldiers
Please include:
- Combat Service Enrollment Form (טופס הצטרפות ללחימה)
- A personal recommendation/evaluation (חוו״ד) from one of your commanding officers
Female Soldiers
Please include:
- A completed questionnaire indicating your preferred combat unit (שאלון העדפות ללחימה)
- A completed personal questionnaire (שאלון דיווח עצמי)
Application Process
Every reassignment request is reviewed carefully and investigated thoroughly. The process can take time, so patience is important while your request is being evaluated.
Step 1: Initial Request
The initial request is opened by the soldier with the help of their unit’s HR official.
Timeframe:
From the day the initial request for reassignment is initiated, allow up to 14 work days for the supplementary documentation to be provided and filled out.
Step 2: Initial Review
The application is transferred to an official for initial review.
Timeframe:
Allow up to 30 work days from the day your request is submitted by your unit’s HR.
Step 3: Review Process
The next step depends on whether the request falls within the assigned official’s authority.
If the Request Is Within the Assigned Official’s Authority
The request will be taken into consideration.
Please note:
The assigned authority can only deny the request twice. The third time the request is submitted, it has to be examined by another official within Meitav (מיטב).
If the Request Is Not Within the Assigned Official’s Authority
The request will be transferred to an official within Meitav (מיטב).
Step 4: Final Decision
Once a decision has been reached, the final decision will be passed to your unit’s HR representative and then to you.
Step 5: Appeals
Appeals can be sent in up to two times. Each appeal will be judged with scrutiny and in great detail.
